EDITOR’S REQUIREMENTS

1. Politics, Economic, Society, Arts & Culture, Science & Environment, Health, Education, History, Trade & Industry

We invite previously published or unpublished political articles concerning the global African community, from editors and individual journalists/writers around the world. Though this section is ostensibly opinion driven, coroboration and veracity crucial elements of a successful submission/selection. We favour high calibre writing that is unapologetic and at once clear and cohesive. Though largly non-prescriptive in our editorial policy, we actively encourage research and writing that showcases the achievements of people of African origins, and undoes age long misrepresentations of African people. In all cases, punch, erudition, humour, wit, allegory, metaphor, dialetics, and satire are qualities we look out for, when deciding what to publish. Occasionally, we will adopt suitable academic essays on pressing topics, issues, and themes. Even then, the same rules of clarity and cohesion apply.

However, we encourage unsolicited copy from other journalist/writers (no previous publishing history necessary). 1500 words maximum. Word format text files via the site or email to the editor preferred. Note: The editor arranges review copies of books

2. Arts & Culture

We invite published or unpublished critique of PanAfrican literary, visual, performing, and craft artforms and processes, including film, video, and functional design and architecture. We favour the same approach as prescribed above, and discourage cultural critique that adopts or defers wantomly to a non-African standards or points of reference. We like our contributors to have a working knowledge of the form or sector they are writing about, but very promising new writers (including students) are very welcome to submit articles or ideas for articles.

Fees: The Panafrican Digest only pays fees for commissioned articles. It is primarily a mutually beneficial forum where editors of Panafrican publications share their best pre-published journalism with the Global PanAfrican community. It fosters a sharing of realities, the inking up of critical thinking about the global African condition, and an expansion of readership for crucial PanAfrican journalism. To that end the publication is designed to rely solely on advertising revenue and sponsorship, so as to offer free access to readers all over the world.

Copyright: Unless expressly arranged, The Panafrican Digest does not normally adopt the copyright of submitted work. However, the publication assumes first publishing rights on every material submitted, except those pre-published articles presented on The PanAfrican Digest by our partner editors (by Associate Editors).
